Attendance Allowance

Benefits Paid Attendance Allowance

Policy:

Remove the Attendance Allowance benefit.

FixUK proposes the removal of Attendance Allowance, a step we believe is crucial for simplifying the UK's benefit system and ensuring spending is targeted where it is most needed.

Attendance Allowance is a non-means-tested, tax-free benefit for people of State Pension age or older with a severe disability or health condition. While well-intentioned, the scheme costs the UK government approximately £6 Billion per year, with a maximum of £5,740 per person.

This expenditure can be better allocated. This simplified benefits system is designed to support individuals with income issues through other, more targeted entitlements.

By removing Attendance Allowance, we can streamline the system, reduce administrative overhead, and refocus resources to provide more effective support to those who need it most, without duplicating existing provisions. This change is about creating a fairer, more efficient, and more sustainable welfare system for all.
