Automatic free prescriptions based on age must end.
It's not fair that a wealthy pensioner gets free prescriptions based on their age, while a young person on a low wage has to pay the full price. Free or reduced cost prescriptions should be for those who genuinely can't afford them, not just for those who reach a certain birthday.
The plan would create a fairer system:
Firstly, automatic free prescriptions based on age must end. Anyone who needs a lot of medication can still keep costs low with a "season ticket" (a Prepayment Certificate).
Secondly, for those on benefits, we propose replacing the total exemption with a small, token co-payment for each item. This is a fair way to reduce waste and ensure everyone who can contributes a little.
The vision is simple: a fairer system where your ability to pay matters more than your date of birth.
