Country House Sale

Asset Sales Country House Sale

Policy:

The sale of Government owned "grace-and-favour" properties used by MP's could generate an estimated £40-£50 Million.

While this amount is small compared to the National Debt, such sales would be a powerful symbolic act.

The United Kingdom maintains several historic "grace-and-favour" country estates, such as Chequers, Chevening, and Dorneywood, for governmental use, traditional attached to high office of state.

The Government also has flats and houses in London, for "grace-and-favour"" and these need also reviewed to see what can be sold.

In a time of significant national debt, a re-evaluation of whether the nation can afford to sustain multiple luxury properties is overdue.

An analysis of their official usage and public benefit could reveal if government functions can be consolidated into a single residence. The sale of just two of these properties could generate an estimated £40-£50 Million.

While this amount is small compared to the national debt, such a sale would be a powerful symbolic act. It would serve as a clear acknowledgement that the UK must align its expenditures with its means, starting with its own non-essential luxuries.

This step would demonstrate a commitment to fiscal responsibility, showing that every state asset should either be self-sustaining or provide a value that justifies its cost to the taxpayer.
