Victims of cybercrime deserve better and more effort to stop it happening.
Victims of cybercrime deserve better.
There needs to be a greater effort to treat those affected as genuine victims and to pursue their perpetrators with more determination.
The current approach to scams and hacks is failing to prevent crime and remove fear, which should be the core purpose of policing. This goes for corporations that get hacked as well, they are victims too. Whereas the attitude of the police is they are not victims, they are just a victim of their own negligence. Help is not offered to them, and they are left to fend for themselves and told if ransomware attach, to ensure they don't pay money to terrorists or they will be going to jail themselves.
To improve this, we should establish a new 24/7 online centre on the Gov.uk website or app for reporting cybercrime and provide much more support.
This platform would provide a seamless experience for victims, connecting all relevant authorities so they aren't directed to different organizations.
Need to help strengthen security into operating systems to reduce occurrence of cybercrime plus go find and jail the criminals and issue high penalties to act as deterrent.
This would ensure a coordinated response and a more effective path to justice.
The most effective solution is to tackle scams and cybercrime by identifying and prosecuting those responsible, while also deterring others who view it as an easy opportunity, especially given the current low capture rates and lenient sentencing.
